Awards & Grants

ESCMID offers abstract submitters for ECCMID 2021 the following grants and awards:

Please note that it is not possible for a single presenting author to be awarded with more than one of the below grants in a single year.

Travel and accommodation included in grants (i.e. Programme Book Grants) will be booked on behalf of the recipient by the ESCMID Executive Office.

Due to restrictions posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the 31st ECCMID will now be held in a fully online format. Travel grant awardees will be granted free registration, however travel and accommodation contributions usually applicable for onsite attendance will not be awarded.

The value of the grant benefits (including registrations) are non-transferable and non-refundable.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email the congress secretariat at

Due to restrictions posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the 31st ECCMID will now be held in a fully online format. Travel grant awardees will be granted free registration, however travel and accommodation contributions usually applicable for onsite attendance will not be awarded.

As in previous years, ECCMID attendees are given the option to pay a € 20 donation upon registration. This is cost usually associated with a printed programme book that would be distributed at an onsite congress. For the fully online 31st ECCMID, the ECCMID programme will be freely available on the ECCMID webpage in PDF format, as well as within the ECCMID app.

The revenues from this initiative will be used to directly support attendees who would otherwise not be able to attend the congress. These grants are awarded on a balance of criteria including age, ESCMID membership status, and country of origin. The grants will be used to cover the costs of online registration for these valued ECCMID participants.

The ISF/ESCMID Sepsis Award 2021 recognizes an outstanding sepsis abstract submitted to the 31th ECCMID 2021.

Abstracts from both the regular and late-breaker abstract submission will be considered for this award.

All abstract submitters in the sepsis field are eligible for this USD 500 award, granted that they have ticked the box during submission indicating their candidature. ISF will review these sepsis-related abstracts and select a winner. More information can be found on the ESCMID website

As ECCMID moves to an online format, ESCMID is pleased to announce another grant initiative, where 21 full access online tickets will be granted to abstract presenters, such that they can present their abstract and join the congress proceedings.

Online access will be granted to the grantees after the successful uploading of their abstract presentation(s) onto the congress platform.

Applications for the 21 for '21 grant have closed.

This initiative is made possible with the generous support of faculty members from ECCMID 2019, who generously donated part or all of their travel reimbursements to support future ECCMID grants. A substantial contribution was also made from the ESCMID budget to support this initiative.

Recipients of this grant will have their names published in the ECCMID Final Programme, however no certificate will be issued.
